Together with a partner company, we have created a comprehensive solution where a Veolia customer receives a voice message directly to a mobile phone and, after taking a picture of the status of the water flow meter, sends the image back with a message. In the background, we then process the photograph of the measuring instrument, recognize the dial of the instrument, or other relevant information (e.g., serial number) and read the value from the dial. The whole solution is based on the use of artificial intelligence (neural networks) and thus creates a unique system of image processing, object detection, and data extraction from them. We transfer the read value to Veolia's ERP systems for the subsequent issuance of an invoice for water abstraction.
The delivered solution significantly reduces the cost of deduction on the part of Veolia and provides flexibility on the part of the client as it is not necessary to "wait for the waterman" to make the deduction. At the same time, the time of obtaining and using information for invoicing purposes is shortened.
